Our Honda CR-X Restomod Render Is A Blast From the Past But With a Modern Twist

SUMMARY

  •  The Honda CR-X was a stylish and high-performing sports compact that put Honda ahead of the competition with its design and performance.
  •  The Honda CR-X render by Rostislav Prokop gives a modern flair to the classic hot hatch, making it even more desirable than modern sports cars.
  •  If Honda were to release a modern version of the CR-X, it would likely come with a turbocharged engine and deliver around 200 horsepower, similar to current Honda Civic models.
HOTCARS VIDEO OF THE DAY

When a Japanese designer got inspired by an Alfa Romeo GT Junior Zagato that he owned, the result was the Honda CR-X. A Kammback that shared the Honda Civic’s drivetrain but came with more aero and gumption, the CR-X was a driver’s car. Although Honda developed only two generations, before replacing it with the CR-X del Sol, a different beast.

Our inhouse digital artist Rostislav Prokop revisited this stunning Honda hot hatch and JDM gem with a flashy render exclusively for Hotcars. The results make this classic look better than the modern sports cars of today. The render uses the same frame as the second-gen CR-X but brushes it up with every modern tech and design element at hand.

This render also proves that while the Honda CR-X didn't get as much recognition as other Honda models, this sports compact was still deserving of praise for its performance and design that put Honda ahead of the competition.

Here’s looking back at the Honda CR-X as the original ‘90s sports icon along with this render that puts it under a modern spotlight.

Honda debuted this front-wheel-drive sports compact in 1983, and it lasted less than a decade, with 1991 being the last year in production. In some markets, Honda sold it as the Civic CR-X, and it largely believed that the name stood for "Civic Renaissance Experimental,” (pretty much like the Buick GNX).
